128 - Rugosoft-一种新型高度防滑的、低噪音薄型或超薄型沥青混凝土路面

In light of demands for better safety and less noise from road users and frontage residents alike, COLAS has developed new thin and very thin asphalt overlays that offer a solution to these two fundamental issues.

In addition, a driving force in this new, innovative design was the fact that the company wishes to ensure optimal use of all grading fraction resources available in its quarries. The extensive use of gap graded mix designs on wearing courses has led to an imbalance in quarry production and stockpiles. This disequilibrium is both hard to manage and costly.

COLAS’ experience and know-how pertaining to the design factors which play a part in skid-resistance and rolling noise made it possible to create a new, innovative, patented surfacing called RUGOSOFT.

Once the laboratory research phase had been completed, projects were launched in the field as of the year 2000, involving thin and very thin overlays on roadways with intense truck traffic, in the framework of an Innovation Charter with the French Road Directorate.

The results validated the new design, proving that RUGOSOFT offered good, long-lasting performance in terms of skid resistance and noise reduction, along with good overall behavior for a low graded surfacing under heavy traffic, compared to conventional thin and very thin asphalt overlays.

After a brief description of RUGOSOFT’S mix design, its main properties are presented. The skid-resistance and noise reduction results in situ are given. In 2004, RUGOSOFT was awarded a SETRA certificate for good behavior under intense truck traffic. It received international recognition in April 2004 with the International Road Federation’s “Construction Methodology” Award 2003.

129 Use of Electric Furnace Steelmaking Slag for Roads 电炉钢渣在道路中的使用

Spain is currently standardising the use of electric furnace slag on roads. This type of slag has the advantage, compared with LD steelmaking slag, of a low content of free lime meaning that it is potentially feebly expansive.

Moreover, this slag also has the advantages of comprising a clean, hard aggregate with good sliding resistance so that it can stand in for better quality aggregates for road use.

This paper describes the changes to have occurred in the regulations governing this type of slag, the research on full-scale test sections being organised in Spain and the characterisation results obtained to date from both laboratory work and application on some experimental sections.

Extending service life of infrastructures is one of important aspects of sustainable development. Latex modified concrete (LMC) for bridge overlayment and functional pavement such as airport runway, concrete road, and garage etc. has been a proven technology for more than 40 years. In addition, latex modified concrete combining shotcrete technology has been used in tunnel application. Increased durability, resistance to permeation, lower maintenance, and lower total costs compared to repair alternatives are all benefits delivered in a latex modified concrete system. Bridges with LMC overlayment often have life span more than 20 years without maintenances. Its superior resistance against water and chloride prevents corrosion and damage to the bridge structure from deicing to achieve longevity. Dow Reichhold styrene butadiene latex offers a unique combination of properties that result in superior performance and value: compatibility with portland cement; improved workability at low water-cement ratios; excellent adhesion; resistance to water and chloride; non-brittleness with a modulus of elasticity that is similar to the substrate concrete; excellent abrasion resistance; low cost over the life cycle of the project. Dow Reichhold latex allows less thickness for overlayment or pavement with longer durability and offers a sustainable technology. This paper/poster presents some field applications and research results of LMC.

131 轮胎橡胶碎片在道路中的应用前景

Tires out of use removal, even though they are not considered neither a toxic nor a dangerous waste, has become a problem because of their intrinsic and geometric characteristics, and the big quantities in which they are produced.

The present paper shows the current situation of this waste in Spain, controlled by the General Law of Waste and the National Plan of Tires Out of Use, as well as the procedures to be followed for recycling some of their components through their use in asphalt mixtures.
